INTO THE FUTURE

This project, over 15 years in the making, has new life and with your help and input is on a fast track to becoming reality.

More than just a Cultural Center, the African-American Cultural Center Project is a state-of-the-art, mixed use, multi-faceted project, encompassing, a new modern "Green built" Community Center, with housing attached. Green build construction derives enhanced benefits in the health, economic, and environmental areas of living thereby improving overall quality of life. With its future location, the AACC will make a stunning addition to the growing cultural appeal of the City of San Jose, and a strong contribution to the financial and cultural redevelopment of the City.

The "project" is a joint venture between the African-American Community Services Agency, (A.A.C.S.A.) and the Antioch Housing and Economic Development Corporation, (A.H.E.D.C.), of Antioch Baptist Church with initial 2 to 1 matching funding from the San Jose City Council, through the San Jose Redevelopment Agency.

We want to engage the African American Community and the greater communities to join us on a journey to build an African American Culture Center. The mixed-use project will consist of three major components: A community center with retail shops, market rate housing and affordable housing.

The community center will represent the foundation of the project. We recognize that the structure and design of the project should be tailored to the needs and desires of the community therefore; the center will include meeting halls, banquet facilities, service organization offices, youth development facilities, a library and gallery, social service providers, family, senior, and youth programs, retail shops and a theatre/auditorium.

The Center will serve as a hub for people celebrating and experiencing the on-going contributions of African Americans - in music, theater, dance, science, athletics, business and many other aspects of American life. It will bring together people from all walks of life and foster mutual understanding and appreciation rooted in the values and ideals that drive the evolution of dynamic cultures worldwide.
